Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree from the department of English Literature. Mitchell began her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent by NBC News a year later. Since 1981 she started reporting on the White House. In 1988, she became the chief of the congressional reporters. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent at NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has been at times on TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She served as a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her contribution to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered in the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's terms as President. She covered a myriad of notable stories, including arm control, tax reform for the budget and the Iran-contra scandal. She also was frequently along with President Reagan to meetings along with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
